the story of
Musical Theatre High!
I founded Musical Theatre High! on 16 February 2010 at the Vandyke Upper School in Leighton Buzzard to 58 enthusiastic students.
Being a local lad, having grown up in Linslade, Leighton Buzzard, my first memory as a child was a strong desire to get up on stage and to perform. A desire that has never left me! Having danced from the age of 6 and soon after that started to sing and act, I always knew that I wanted to perform and participated in many amateur shows to follow my ambition. At the age of 16, I left home to train professionally for three years at the prestigious college Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, graduating with a diploma in Musical Theatre and a teaching associate in Classical Ballet. My dreams were realised when I landed my first professional show straight from leaving college in the musical Fame which toured the UK for a year. I was stunned when shortly after that I made my West End debut in the musical Cats - a show I had always wanted to be in.
I am so proud to say I have been in 6 West End productions with numerous shows abroad and outside London, with Shakespeare at the Open Air Theatre, Regents Park and playing the lead role of Eddie in Blood Brothers (for a full biography of what I have done please visit my acting website at www.richardreynard.com)
Alongside performing, I have always had a passion for teaching, passing on what I have learned in the theatre to other hopefuls. This is why I created Musical Theatre High!
Let me explain why Musical Theatre High! When performing, from the excitement of standing in front of a live audience, adrenaline kicks in with the nerves at the uncertainty of the performance you are about to give! During the performance you experience a fantastic ecstasy and as you leave the stage you feel exhilarated - a musical theatre high! Often, it’s not just the performer who feels this, the audience have a musical theatre high too, leaving the theatre with a spring in their step and usually singing songs from the show! So Musical Theatre High! - high on musical theatre!
So come along and experience the “Musical Theatre High!”
